The Wildcats placed first in the Euclid Relays as they near the end of the regular season.

The Track and Field Varsity Wildcats won the Euclid Relays on Friday, May 7, with 87 points! The team had contributions from almost every single event—sprints, distance, relays and field! The Wildcats won two events and finished top 5 in 10 others.
Jack McCarthy made his season debut in the 100m running an impressive 11.22, just .87 seconds behind DK Metcalf’s 100m debut this weekend of 10.37. The 4x100m team won their 4th out of 6 outdoor races this year in their second-fastest time in 2021, still with the 18th fastest time in the state. The DMR had the most impressive win of the night, with Connor McAndrew chasing down the leader on the final leg for a vital mile time in his leg. In his first 400m as a Saint Ignatius Wildcat, Peter Fitzpatrick ran a 53.1 split as the anchor in a hotly contested 4x4, and Edwin Abiakl just beat Peter out in the open 400m. He was running 53.04. Aidan Monroe just missed a sub-4:30 1600m and had a dramatic final stumbling 50m to hold off teammate Joseph Maloney who ran a 3 second PR in 4:33. The field events for the Wildcats featured four fantastic duos, including two juniors, Bush and Pulice, in the pole vault, two seniors, Shyne and Santagata in the long jump, a senior and sophomore, Velotta and Hyland, in shotput, and a senior and a junior, Velotta and Kause, in the discus. John Corrigan stuck out as a young stud for the Cats, opening the DMR with a 2:03 800m, the fastest time by an Ignatius sophomore in several years. Matt Kelly and Sean Uhran raced together again for just the second time this year and finished close by each other in the 3200m, setting outdoor personal bests. The Cats ran and competed from the field very consistently across the board and won by a commanding 13.67 points against most of the teams in the Cleveland area. The next meet for the Cats is the District Championship, taking place on Wednesday, May 19 and Friday, May 21.
