Nate Day will be continuing his academic and tennis career at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) next fall as he has committed to be a future Jaguar. The Jaguars are coached by Bren Vasalakis, who has a decorated background in tennis. Day has been a leader for the Tennis Cats since he stepped foot on the Saint Ignatius campus as a freshman and seeks to continue that leadership at the Division I level.

“I’m really excited,” says Day. “I thought over this for a long time, and I am glad I came to this decision.” Day explains that IUPUI is a perfect fit for him and his family, “The school is not too far away from home,” says Day. “That is what I was looking for to stay close to family.”

Day continues to be a dominant force for the Wildcats as their lead singles player and seeks to make a state tournament run his senior season. “Nate brings a great leadership role for the underclassman,” says Head Tennis Coach Bobbe Bennett. “He keeps everyone motivated, cheering on the other courts during a match.”
 
“Coach Bennett has helped me a lot,” says Day. “She has been coaching on and off the court, and ultimately she helped guide me to IUPUI.”

Due to the pandemic in 2020, Day did not have a junior season repping the Blue and Gold. Now, coming into his senior year in 2021, Day is exuberant to make some noise for the Wildcats this tennis season. “I’m just hoping to play some of the best tennis in my career for Saint Ignatius,” explains Day. “This is the most excited I have been for high school season in all my four years.”

The Wildcats have a relatively young team this season filled with first-year students appearing in their first varsity matches in high school. “I want to help the younger guys to stay focused, especially during point play,” says Day. “I think that is the most important thing you can do; keep the ball in and stay strong.”

Day seeks to continue his illustrious high school career to the Division I college level at IUPUI next fall but has his goals set on his senior year to make it to the state tournament and represent the Wildcats one last time.
