The Wildcats win in five innings; Nard and Rocky hold the Preppers to just one hit in win.

The Wildcats came off a tough loss on the road to Amherst-Steele on Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-2. The loss stung just a tad longer as their Thursday afternoon match-up vs. Stow was postponed due to snow in Northeast Ohio. The Baseball Cats were back on the diamond at Brookside on Saturday afternoon vs. the University School Preppers. The weather was much more ideal for spring baseball in April with a 51 degree, clear skies afternoon in Cleveland.

The Wildcats came out firing against the Preppers in the opening inning. The first run of the game was a sac fly by third baseman Noah Brazytis that brought home senior captain Matt Giberti. With two outs in the inning, stepped in was junior Anthony Paskell. Paskell hit a line drive into the alleyway to right-centerfield that scored Gabe Nard from second as Paskell got to third on an RBI triple. The freshman Sawyer Solitaria would finish the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single to score Paskell.

Billy Adams would continue the scoring for the Wildcats in the second inning with a shot up the left-field line that would score Jacob Eiermann from third on the RBI single. With two outs and a payoff pitch coming, Paskell shot a frozen rope up the middle into center field, which scored Giberti and Adams for a 2 RBI single. Solitaria’s bat remained hot to open the season as he drove in Paskell on the ground-rule double to finish the scoring in the second inning as the Cats enjoyed a 7-0 lead heading to inning number three.

In the top half of the third inning, it was a good morning, good afternoon, and good night for the Preppers facing the lethal arm of Nard in his second start of the season. Nard struck out the side to finish off his day. Nard went three innings with four strikeouts, no hits, and no walks issued.

Jacob Rocky would come in the fourth inning for relief and be just as masterful as Nard as he would strike out two in the top half of the fourth. The Wildcats went four and a two-thirds with a perfect game vs. University School. The first and only hit for the Preppers came in the fifth inning with a line-drive single. Rocky would strike-out the very next batter to end the top half of the inning.

SIBN Player of the Game; Anthony Paskell

The Wildcats would put the game out of reach in the bottom half of the fifth, bringing three runs home to end the game in the fifth. With bases loaded and two outs, Cole Jones stepped to the plate. Jones watched ball four hit the Preppers glove with a payoff pitch, bringing home Jacob Eiermann to finish the Preppers off in five innings with a 10-0 win.

“We just wanted to bounce back,” says Paskell. “We wanted to get back into the win column today, and that’s just what we did.” Paskell went 3-3 with 3 RBIs in the win and was the SIBN Player of the Game.

Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to Centerville to take on the Elks. First-pitch is slated for 5 p.m. on Tuesday. If the weather forecast holds up, the Wildcats and Elks will enjoy a 75 degree, a partly cloudy game in Columbus. The Cats will return home to Brookside on Thursday to take on the St. Edward Eagles for a 5 p.m. start time; that game will be covered on the SIBN.
