All four squads dominate in a sweep of NDLS and Medina Saturday afternoon.

The Rugby Cats enjoyed the friendly confines of Wasmer Field on Saturday, March 20, in a 46-0 win over Notre Dame de La Salette. The Wildcats came into the match-up off the heels of an impressive 66-5 win over St. Xavier at Recreational Trail Obetz.

Sophomore Pat Lavelle opened the Wildcats scoring at the seventh minute with a late push near the goalline vs. the Lions. The try was no good to keep the score at a 5-0 lead for the Cats.

The Rugby Cats kept NDLS trapped within their territory throughout the first half of play from Wasmer. In the ninth minute, junior Marty Lenehan made his way in for the score, expanding the Wildcat lead to 10-0.

The Lions and Wildcats would be defensively stronghold for the next 14 minutes as both teams would trade blows defensively. In the 25th minute, Sophomore Danny Krebs punched his way between the sticks to give the Cats a 17-0 advantage.

Lavelle answered the call again in the 41st minute as, for a second time in the afternoon, he scored for the Wildcats, making it 24-0 all Wildcats over the Lions. Lavelle was not done scoring for the Cats as in the 52nd minute; he dragged a pile of Lions into the endzone for his third try of the afternoon.

“We knew this was going to be a big statement game,” says Lavelle. “We played hard through the entirety of the match, and the game just came to us.”

Lenehan would finish the scoring for the Cats with a scamper up the sideline, capping the Cats 46-0 victory over NDSL, improving to 2-1 on the season.

All four rugby squads walked away with a victory on Saturday afternoon. JV kept their winning ways up with a robust second-half victory over NDSL. Varsity B got their first win of the 2021 campaign with a 19-17 win over the Medina Bees. The Cats trailed the Bees 5-17 at the half and came back to win. Developmental finished off the perfect day with a 57-10 over Medina, improving to 2-1 on the season.

Next-up for all four squads is a trip to Archbishop Moeller to take on the Crusaders. Action is slated to begin Saturday, March 27 at 11:30 a.m.
