Gilmour and the Pittsburgh Predators are on the docket for Saint Ignatius

Saint Ignatius Wildcat Hockey is back on the ice for a Friday night and Saturday morning set against the Gilmour Lancers and the Pittsburgh Predators AA team. The Ice Cats are coming off a very productive weekend, both tying and defeating Gilmour to improve their record to 1-2-1.

Despite a slow start the Wildcats are starting to find their groove. A big part of the machine that is Wildcat hockey are Senior Captain No. 4 Aidan Conway and Assistant Captains No. 14 Erik Galuner and No. 5 Chucky Wilson. Conway, a four year letterman, provides the defense with experience, not to mention his 6-foot-2-inch, 225 pound frame, and is a force to be reckoned with on the ice.

On the other hand, underclassmen studs have made a great impact early for the Ice Cats. No. 16 Brandon Getz came up with a clutch goal in Saturday’s game, and Saint Ignatius saw impacts from the sophomore defenseman No. 6 Frankie Basile out of Rocky River throughout last weekend.

The Cats are really amped up to carry that momentum into this weekend. They face Gilmour for the third time this season, and the Predators for the first of many. The lines are starting to get more and more in tune and the Cats are playing better team hockey with each passing week.

The story of the season will continue to be how well the youth of the team steps up and so far the future is bright. Head Coach Pat O’Rourke’s quote from the beginning of November still holds true, “We have to remember every day is a blessing. We’re just happy to be able to play hockey no matter what.” Catch the Cats on the SIBN Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Gilmour and Saturday vs. Pittsburgh Predators AA (Winterhurst) at 10:20 a.m.
