Defender Thomas Nader helped to spark the Wildcats' win.

This Thursday, the JV A Soccer Wildcats crushed the Walsh Jesuit Warriors by a score of 5-1.

It didn’t take long for the Wildcats to get on the board. Two minutes into the match, Xavier Munro hit a perfect corner kick, right to defender Ernie Vargo.

The game was on grass, rather than turf, which made a big difference in the game. That was evident on this goal. With 26:58 left in the half, the Warriors goalkeeper misplayed the ball in the grass, putting it in the goal for the Wildcats. As always, the own-goal was credited to JV A Head Coach Jim Brennan ‘85.

On the next play, with 24:41 left in the half, defender Thomas Nader went to clear the ball. He was a few steps in front of midfield, and it appeared to be over-kicked and heading out of bounds, however, it somehow managed to find its way to the top right corner of the net and past the goalkeeper for an Ignatius goal.

The halftime speech by Coach Jim Brennan ‘85 was simple. The overarching theme was, “We have a large lead, don’t get sloppy.” He also talked about keeping the shutout.

Unfortunately, the shutout came to an end, with 34:26 left in the game. A good pass put the Warriors in prime position to score, and that’s what they did. They managed to get the ball over the Saint Ignatius keeper’s head.

The Wildcats wouldn’t let the goal get to them, as eight minutes later, forward Xavier Munro scored from the corner of the penalty box.

Then, with 24:02 left, the Walsh goalie had made a nice save, however it put him out of position, and defender Phil Vlastaris was right there to put it in the net.

The JV A Wildcats move to 7-0 on the season. They will play on Saturday, September 26, at home against Toledo St. Francis at 3 pm.
