Jackson Gerber scored the opening goal of the game.

On Monday evening, the JV A Soccer Wildcats took down Avon Lake by a score of 3-1.

The game started out slowly, with neither teams seeming to get an edge. A few good opportunities for the Cats came up dry.

It wasn’t until almost the end of the half, with 6:34 remaining, that the Wildcats could finally get on the board. After a nice through ball from Will Armsworthy, Jackson Gerber was able to put it in, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

At the half, Coach Jim Brennan ‘85 talked about making good passes and not getting sloppy.

The team came out of the half eager to extend their lead. Two minutes into the half, with 34:02 remaining, Giancarlo Sarti was able to sneak the ball past the keeper off of a nice short pass from Xavier Munro.

Not long after, with 29:27 left, Ashton Daher scored, giving the Cats a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Shoremen wouldn’t go down without a fight. They would try to mount a comeback, with a goal at 15:09 left. However, the Wildcats’ defense wouldn’t allow the game to get within reach, as they would shut them down for the rest of the game.

The JV A Wildcats will advance to 3-0 on the season. They will play on Wednesday, September 16, at 6 pm at St. Edward.
