Liam Doyle managed a Hole in 1, the third in school history.

By the time fall gives way to winter, just about the entire record board for Saint Ignatius Golf will be filled with 2020 records.

On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, the Wildcats notched a hole in one, a team record, and a low 9 record.

We're going to run out of superlatives awfully quickly if this keeps up.

As a team, the Varsity Blue squad won the Saint John's Jesuit Titan Invitational, with a team score of 280. The Varsity Gold team finished in fourth with a team tally of 305.

Where to begin? Let's start with the new team record for a Par 72 course. The Wildcats previously set the mark in the opening week of August with a team score of 288, under the preceding bar of 289 set in 2009. The Golf Cats absolutely shattered those numbers on Tuesday. The men of PJ Myers '99 combined for a team tally of 280, smashing the mark by a colossal eight strokes. The Wildcats won the Titan Invitational by a titanic 18 strokes.

Not a bad day on the course.

Nick Piesen led the Blue team's outstanding efforts. The sophomore pocketed a 68 for the day, quite a good mark, and even more so when looking at the front 9 and back 9 scores. Piesen logged a 31 (-5) on the back nine, easing past the previous program best of 32. Two Wildcats – Dan Rush in 2003 and Michael McCaffrey in 2017 – had accomplished a 32 on nine holes, but their names will now be erased from the board to make way for Piesen.

In the process today, Piesen also earned medalist honors at the Titan Invite, conquering the field at Stone Ridge Golf Course.

Connor Malicki finished just one stroke behind his fellow sophomore, with a stunning score of 69 for the day. Malicki earned second place at the Jesuit invite.

Bradley Chill penciled in a 70 on his scorecard in Bowling Green, yet another piece of evidence of the freshman's remarkable talents. Topher Reed rounded out the Wildcats' scores, etching a 73 for the day, nothing to sniff at certainly.

The Varsity Gold gang also competed in the Titan Invite on Tuesday. Liam Doyle stole the show for the men of Tom Beach. Doyle achieved a feat only accomplished by two other golfers in Saint Ignatius history – the coveted Hole in 1.

Doyle joins the Hole in 1 Club at Saint Ignatius, a group with only two other members – Jonathan Koss '98 and Rich Roy '99. Doyle enjoyed a great day on the course with a final score of 74, including several birdies and one indelible memory he'll never forget.

Andrew Martin produced an excellent score as well, coming in at 75 for the afternoon. Julian Dugan thrived in Toledo, to the tune of a 77. Michael O'Leary followed with a great 79. John Thompson was no slouch, either, completing the team's score with a nice 84.

The Gold Cats' team score of 305 placed them fourth out of 15 teams, just seven shots out of second and four strokes out of third.

Yesterday, Beach's boys excelled at the American Italian Golf Association High School Invitational, hosted by Bishop Watterson High School. The Wildcats secured third with a team mark of 301.

Dugan anchored the squad with a great tally of 73. Nick Longano trailed closely behind, snagging a 74 for the day. MJ Myers handled York Country Club's course well, too, carding a 76. Thompson completed the team score with a 78, and Doyle rounded out the club with a 79.

The Blue and Gold teams return to the course on Saturday, heading east to Windmill Lakes for the University School Invitational.
