Sean Hoagland won medalist honors for the Wildcats.

As Tom Bogen remarked, Friday afternoon was bittersweet.

The Wildcats captured their third tournament victory in as many days, with a breakout effort from Sean Hoagland. However, Friday's Tannehauf Invitational was the final competition for the Wildcats for some time.

On Friday afternoon, Saint Ignatius announced its plan to ensure that students are healthy and back on campus in the fall. Part of that plan is suspending athletics and extracurriculars until after Labor Day.

So, the Golf Cats made the most out of Friday, with all five Varsity Gold golfers tallying a score of 80 or lower on a fine day at Tannehauf Golf Course.

Hoagland anchored the Wildcats on Friday. The junior transfer from Chicago tore off a magnificent score of 74. Hoagland's mark bested all other golfers by two strokes, and all non-Ignatius golfers by four strokes. Hoagland finished two-over-par on the par 72 course.

MJ Myers also posted a terrific total of 76 on the afternoon. The rising junior worked hard all offseason, including a tournament-filled summer, to improve his game. His efforts are beginning to lead to results, as Myers finished at +4, good enough for the silver medal.

In a showing of the team's depth, Andrew Martin tied for third to help the Wildcats sweep. The senior carded a 78 in the third invite of the season, tying with Alliance's Blake Hood and Green's Alex Micale for the distinction of third place. Martin is beginning to find his groove, which could spell great things for him later this season.

Michael O'Leary enjoyed a noteworthy day on the course as well, breaking 80. The rising sophomore chipped in a nice score of 79 for a tie for sixth place, completing the Wildcats' team score. O'Leary will be another name to watch as the season resumes.

Fellow sophomore John Thompson rounded out the Golf Cats on Friday. Thompson penciled in an 80 at day's end, the +8 tally giving him a tie for tenth place.

As a team, the Wildcats combined for a score of 307, better than all other comers at the Division I level. The fact that the Wildcats' second varsity squad won the tournament speaks volumes about the breadth and depth of this program.

Whenever play resumes for the Wildcats, you know they'll be ready. The Golf Cats made the most of the opening week of the season with three tournament wins, and they'll be ready to roar once the season resumes for them.
