We told you how good the Saint Ignatius golf team was earlier today in our preview. The Varsity Blue Wildcats showed it on the course today.

On Wednesday, in the first OHSAA sanctioned competition since March, the Golf Cats just blitzed it. The Wildcats' top varsity team roared to the tune of a score of 282 to win the Walsh Jesuit Invitational at Brookledge Golf Course.

That score isn't just good. It is jaw-dropping. The previous school record on a par 71 course was 286, set in 2001 by Ben Smith (70), Ted Smith (71), Tom Wiegand (72), and Daniel Rush (73). That quartet helped the Wildcats win the state championship in 2001. 

Yes, these Wildcats are uber-talented. The Golf Cats are ready and primed to what could be a fall to remember. 

Topher Reed blazed the way for the Clevelanders on Wednesday, leading the team with a tally of 68. His three-under-par effort topped the team in impressive fashion. His score was just two strokes above Daniel Rush's school record of 66. 

Nick Piesen also enjoyed a legendary day on the course. The sophomore carded a 69 (-2) on a bright day in Cuyahoga Falls. Piesen will continue to be a key contributor all season long.  

Connor Malicki fired out to a tally of 71 in the season opener. The sophomore saw time with the varsity squad this season, but if he keeps this up, he'll be a lock to remain on the Varsity Blue team.

Bradley Chill rounded out the Wildcats' squad with an awe-inspiring debut in the blue and gold. In his first event as a Saint Ignatius golfer, Chill marked down a 74 at day's end. He's following in the footsteps of Reed and Piesen of freshman phenoms, with plenty of good times and great scores ahead.

The Wildcats will hope to keep the fun times rolling on Thursday, as the program hosts the Saint Ignatius Invitational at Red Tail in Avon. Look for coverage on social media tomorrow from the course.
