As the 2020 season inches nearer, two members of the Saint Ignatius varsity football team are drawing attention.

Max Preps has named Aidan Hubbard and Declan Mangan to its Preseason Ohio All-State high school football team.

Hubbard and Mangan give the Wildcats two honorees on the second-team. Of the 44 schools represented, only eight teams have two players on the list. Saint Ignatius is the only school in Cuyahoga County represented with two selections.

At the conclusion of the 2019 campaign, Hubbard and Mangan earned recognition. The rising seniors were selected to the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association (OPSWA) All-Ohio team after outstanding seasons. Mangan led the way with First-Team honors, while Hubbard snagged Second-Team recognition.

Mangan shared kicking duties last season, handling kickoffs, punts, and long field goals. He showcased his cannon leg on several occasions, launching field goals of 47, 48, 49, 53 and 56 yards. Mangan's 53- and 56-yarders rank as the second and fifth longest field goals in school history. And the Wildcats have seen plenty of prolific kickers. The program has produced four first-team All-Ohioans since 2011, including Tim Shenk '12, who kicked for Air Force, and Matthew Trickett '18, who currently starts for Kent State.  

Beyond field goals, Mangan tallied 34.6 yards per punt, a number that will only improve this fall. And even more impressively, Mangan boomed 34-of-52 kickoffs for touchbacks. He's got a monster leg, and if he has a chance to show it off this fall, he'll draw some offers. 

Hubbard is bound for Northwestern University in 2021 after seeing a host of offers flow in. The athletic and physical outside linebacker served as a key leader of the defense in 2019 and earned deserved recognition. Hubbard led a talented defense with 40.5 tackles. The 6'4", 230-pound added 10 tackles for loss and 3 sacks, too.

The Rocky River native will be part of a dynamic Linebacker Legion that promises to be a huge point of strength for the Wildcats. As Ohio's 33rd ranked player overall and a Top 50 linebacker in the nation, Hubbard will be a critical cog in a talented defense.
