Coach Kyle will help demonstrate proper tackling techniques and touch on a number of other topics.

The Cleveland Browns have long been on the cutting edge of youth football. Other NFL teams have followed the Browns' lead in creating programs and initiatives to further youth football in Northeast Ohio.

One of the programs that the Browns host is the team's annual Parent Clinic, which will take place this year on Tuesday, June 23 from 6-8 pm.

This year's edition will look a bit different from past years, switching to an online format due to COVID-19. But the program will be as informative as always, and feature a familiar face who always attends – Chuck Kyle '69.

The Wildcats' longtime head football coach has participated in the clinic since the first iteration in 2014. The program began as a Moms Clinic before recently transitioning to a Parents Clinic. Each year, Kyle teaches proper tackling and other important techniques for youngsters.

"I'll go over tackling techniques and other things, not as much strategy as contact. Blocking and tackling techniques have changed," says Kyle, who works for the Browns as a youth football advisor. "Contact has been studied in-depth, so football is different from 15-20 years ago, thanks to the research. We'll cover what is being done now with tackling and how the youth coaches are being taught to teach. I'll invite parents to go to their son's practices and see it.

"Typically it's in-person with 100 people or so. This time, it's a Zoom. We've all been getting used to it for the past three-and-a-half months. It is a challenge to present newer techniques in a Zoom, but we'll handle it okay."

Several other experts will be presenting, including the Director of the Concussion Management Program at University Hospitals, Christopher M. Bailey, Ph.D., ABPP-CN; the Browns' Lead Medical Physician, Sean A. Cupp, M.D., FAAFP; Browns Team Nutritionist Katy Meassick; and OHSAA Senior Director of Officiating and Sport Management, Beau Rugg.

The goal is to educate parents with the best and brightest minds in football.

"We're looking to familiarize parents with the game, because it's evolved the last few years," Kyle says. "The goal is to provide an opportunity for encouraging parents to see that this isn't the same old game from 15 years ago."

At the end of the program, there will be a panel question & answer session with all of the brilliant people mentioned above, as well as Roman Oben, the Vice President of Football Operations for the NFL. Oben played for 12 seasons in the NFL, including two years for the Browns in 2000 and 2001.
