Both are headed off to play football in college.

No games will be played this summer, but two Wildcats have been recognized as All-Stars by the Greater Cleveland Football Coaches Association.

Jack Welcsh '20 and Nick Schwitzgebel '20 have been selected as All-Stars for the 48th annual East-West All-Star football game by the GCFCA.

Welcsh and Schwitzgebel will not get to play in the game, but they will receive a congratulatory letter, a certificate of honor, and an invitation to be honored at next year's game.

Schwitzgebel enjoyed an illustrious career with the Football Cats. The 6’4, 295-pound offensive tackle started on the right side in 2018 and anchored the line at left tackle in 2019.

As a senior, Schwitzgebel served as a captain and a team leader. He graded out at a 93% blocking efficiency, later earning himself All-District honorable mention. The star will head to the Ivy League in the fall, destined for Dartmouth College.

Welcsh similarly shined for the Wildcats. He first broke onto the scene as a sophomore, scoring a touchdown as a running back in the 2017 Regional Semifinal. He continued to excel as a junior, notching Welcsh tallied 350 rushing yards, 115 receiving yards, and 5 touchdowns as a back as well as 29.5 tackles, a tackle for loss, an interception, and two fumble recoveries at safety.

The Westsider improved further as a senior, developing into a leader and captain. Welcsh was distinguished with the No. 34 Jim Skerl Award for his outstanding work on the field and in the classroom. Welcsh finished his senior season with 590 rushing yards, 207 receiving yards, and 6 total touchdowns on offense and 20 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and 1 interception on defense.

Welcsh also did great things on the lacrosse field in the springs. The defender earned All-Region and All-MSLCA honors for his outstanding play in protecting the net for the Wildcats in 2019. He was named a team captain for the 2020 season.

In the fall, you'll see him at the University of Cincinnati. The preferred walk-on hopes to earn a scholarship and later a degree from the great institution in the Queen City.
