Among his many honors, Nigro was named a D3 All-American.

When you're looking to build a defense, you want to start with a player like Matt Nigro '15.

A hard-nosed, athletic defender, Nigro is the type of player every coach wants on his/her team. So it's no wonder that Nigro wound up on the men's team at John Carroll University, a program that has become a powerhouse, and the class of the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Nigro's JCU soccer career concluded in November, but the honors have not stopped rolling in.

The 2015 Saint Ignatius alumnus has earned a host of awards and recognition. Most recently and most notably, Nigro earned All-American status. On Thursday, the United Soccer Coaches crowned Nigro as a Third-Team All-American.

That recognition goes on the top shelf of his trophy cabinet, which is filled with awards. Nigro earned First Team All-Great Lakes Region, First Team All-OAC, and a spot on the 2019 OAC All-Tournament Team. And from a team perspective, Nigro helped the Blue Streaks win the program's 12th regular season OAC title and 9th OAC Tournament title, including the second in a row. Nigro also played a significant role on the team last year.

As someone who knows his coaches at JCU, I can write that Nigro is the type of player who is beloved by his coaches and teammates.

During his time at Saint Ignatius, Nigro also did great things. The Strongsville native helped the Wildcats win the OHSAA State Championship in 2014, beginning the Wildcats' three-year title run. For his efforts as a senior, Nigro earned first-team All-Greater Cleveland honors. He graduated from Wildcat High with a 3.5 GPA.

Nigro has a bright future ahead, too. An Italian major with a minor in psychology, the world is his oyster.

And speaking of the Nigro family – Matt's cousin, Liam '18, received his OAC Championship ring after a great spring season with the JCU lacrosse squad, along with fellow Ignatian standouts Cam Gerard '16 and Ian Flynn '18.

Not a bad week for the Nigro family! Congrats, men!
