Notarianni has been excellent all season, and added 2 assists this week.

As the leaves begin to fall, two teams are in their final week of competition, while the Soccer Cats will look to stay alive in the Regional Semifinal on Wednesday.

Over the weekend, players from all three squads posted excellent efforts worth mentioning.

So without further ado, here are the Magis Athletes of the Week, presented by the Carfagna Family Magis Athletic Center.

Cross Country – Jack Mayer '20

All season long, Jack Mayer has been a reliable runner for the Cross Country Cats.

Mayer is not one to hog the spotlight, but it's his time to enjoy the limelight.

A team captain, Mayer has been an important leader on and off the course for the whole season. A great runner, Mayer is in the thick of things, helping the Wildcats capture top finishes. His great work was much needed in a strong pack of teams at the Regional Meet this weekend.

When the Wildcats needed him to thrive, Mayer stepped up big-time. The senior turned in a nice time of 17:11 on a soggy course in Youngstown at Boardman High School. Mayer's excellent efforts greatly aided the Wildcats. Thanks in part to his heroics, the Cross Country Cats finished third at the Regional Meet and punched a ticket to the State Meet this weekend.

Look for Mayer and the Wildcats to make some noise on Saturday.

Football – Erik Daugenti '20

We could have chosen several names for this honor this week. Despite a narrow 13-10 loss to St. Xavier, a number of Wildcats played their hearts out. Erik Daugenti stands out above the rest.

Facing a stout Bombers' offense, the Wildcats' defense needed its corners to be excellent. Especially since Connor Cmiel would be largely limited to offense after recovering from injury.

Enter Erik Daugenti. The senior was all over the field on Saturday. The quick corner topped the team in tackles with 10, adding a tackle for loss and a pass breakup,

Whenever the Wildcats needed a stop on the edge or a big tackle on a pass play, Daugenti was right there. And this wasn't an isolated big game or a fluke from Daugenti. After nine games, Daugenti leads the team with 35 tackles. The two-sport athlete also has 3.5 tackles, 8 pass breakups, 1 interception, and 1 blocked kick this season.

Kudos also goes to Peter Chalhoub this week. The big sophomore played a huge role for the Wildcats in holding off the JV Bombers, 26-21. The defensive lineman seemed to be in the backfield on every play for the JV Cats, playing his tail off to help the Wildcats earn the W.

Soccer – Ryan Notarianni

A quiet, humble player who deserves some recognition this week is Ryan Notarianni.

The hard-working senior has contributed all season for the Wildcats. A standout defender with good foot skills, Notarianni has silently played a huge part in the Wildcats' back line, deflecting opponents' chances all season.

This week, Notar got involved in the offense, too. Playing on the right side, the senior slotted in the ball across the field to Matthew McLaughlin. The marvelous pass to an open McLaughlin made the opening goal possible. That turned out to be the game-winner, but Notarianni didn't stop there. Later in the game, Notar lofted a perfect ball to Everett Shorey. The senior slotted the ball into the back of the net for another goal to up the lead to 4-0.

Notarianni will continue to play a large role for the Wildcats moving forward, including in Wednesday's Regional Semifinal.

Congrats to our three Magis Athletes of the Week!
