Less than 24 hours after Saint Ignatius and Archbishop Hoban fought it out on the gridiron, the Wildcats and Knights golf teams battled on the golf course at the St. Edward Invitational.

After a fun afternoon at Lakewood Country Club, the Wildcats emerged as the victor.

With all six varsity players scoring under 80, the Golf Cats tallied a team score of 296. The Wildcats bested the Knights by just one stroke, marking the fifth tournament win of the year for the Cats.

With head coach PJ Myers '99 unable to attend on Saturday, legendary assistant coach Bob Koch '64 took the reins. Under his direction, the Wildcats golfed well.

As per usual, Andrew Kaye led the way. The senior captain took care of business well at every turn from start to finish. Kaye captured a score of 73 to anchor the squad.

Nick Piesen also enjoyed a wonderful day. Piesen handled the quick greens with grace and an expert eye. The freshman penciled in a 73 at the end of the day, another great score in a series of excellent efforts.

Topher Reed followed closely behind with a score of 75. The sophomore conquered the course after overcoming the difficult 7-8 holes. Reed will be a huge part of the playoff run, which quickly approaches for the men of Ohio City.

Connor Warns matched the feat of 75. The senior used his powerful drives to get him close to the hole and finished things off well on the greens. In a similar fashion, Ross Williamson notched a 75. The two veterans played quite well on an at-times difficult course, which was designed by A.W. Tillinghast (founding father of the PGA of America).

Nick Longano rounded out the squad with a mark of 78. Longano is a strong player who will factor in plenty down the stretch.

Meanwhile, the JV Gold team acquitted itself well in a field of varsity teams. Tom Beach's boys finished 7th out of 13 varsity teams present with a score of 323.

Connor Malicki led the way with a 78. Cool as a cucumber, Malicki never lets pressure get to him. The freshman will be fun to watch the rest of the year and in the future.

Andrew Martin nipped at Malicki's heels all day. Martin carded a 79 at day's end, with a nice output.

Not far behind was Liam Doyle, who tallied an 82 for the Wildcats. Doyle hit several nice chip shots and putted well, too. MJ Myers tagged an 84 for the day, battling tough conditions on some holes. Braden Hilditch slid in with an 85 on the day, hitting some nice drives. JR Leedy rounded out the group with an 86 on the day.

As strange as it sounds, the season is nearly at an end for both teams. Beach's boys only have a few events left, with the next match on the slate scheduled for this Friday at St. Edward, a dual match.

Meanwhile, Myers' men will head down to Columbus this weekend for the Bishop Watterson Invitational. The team has just three tournaments left before the start of the postseason.
