The Wildcats earned great results and had a fun time.

A weekend of beautiful weather and some freedom led to a fun two days for the Wildcats.

The weekend began with the University School Invitational on Saturday. The Varsity and JV Gold teams finished 1st and 8th at Windmill Lakes, performing well amidst strong competition.

The Wildcats took the course again on Sunday at the Reece Alexander Invitational, hosted by Gilmour Academy. Head Coach PJ Myers '99 opted for a different approach at Fowlers Mill. Instead of splitting up between varsity and JV, Myers decided to appoint his two seniors to choose the teams.

Andrew Kaye, the team captain, and Ross Williamson, the team's Mr. Jim Skerl #34 player, selected the squads of five players. Williamson's quintet was designated as Team Blue and Kaye's squad was named Team Gold.

Both teams did quite well, finishing 3rd and 4th overall in a good field of teams on Sunday.

Here's an in-depth look at a great weekend.

Fourth win of the season

It's no secret that the Wildcats have a deep team this season. The Wildcats can win any tournament they play in.

The Wildcats' talent was on full display at Windmill Lakes on Saturday. The Myers' men rolled to a first-place team score of 299, besting the field by five strokes. The Wildcats did not earn any individual hardware, but it's the team trophies that matter more to this team.

Topher Reed led the squad with a tally of 72. The sophomore has been outstanding all season, showing off his skills and excellent mental aptitude on the course.

Ross Williamson enjoyed a similarly great day. The senior rolled a 75 to tie for second with Connor Malicki. The freshman is an example of the talented youth flowing through the Saint Ignatius golf program.

Looking for another example of the bright future of Wildcats' golf? Nick Piesen. The incredible first-year Cat tallied a marvelous score of 77 on Saturday. Connor Warns nipped at his heels with a 78, and Andrew Kaye rounded out the pack with an 81.

The win marked the Wildcats' fourth tourney of the season, and not the last by any stretch.

Beach's boys continue to impress

Facing all varsity teams, the JV Gold Cats finished 8th, besting a host of area programs.

The Wildcats tallied a team score of 316 on Saturday with a young squad.

Liam Doyle led the way with a tally of 78. Fellow vet Andrew Martin also did quite well, carding a 79 for the day. JR Leedy matched the effort with an identical 79. Braden Hilditch marked down an 80, followed closely by an 83 by MJ Myers. Michael O'Leary rounded out the pack with a 98.

The Wildcats now have some time off before returning to the course on September 11 for a dual match vs. Walsh Jesuit.

Williamson and Kaye lead Cats to success

The decision for Williamson and Kaye to choose the teams worked out well.

Williamson's Team Blue tallied a score of 311, good enough for third place. Kaye's Team Gold notched an effort of fourth-place mark of 314. And just as important as the scores, the Wildcats had fun.

The varsity and JV guys don't always get to play together, so the idea of mixing it up appealed to everyone. It was a nice team bonding experience for the Wildcats, and the scores reflected the good time had by all.

Williamson led his team with a great card of 73, a dynamic effort by the senior. Connor Malicki continued his strong weekend with a tally of 77. His fellow frosh Nick Piesen penned a 79 for the day. Andrew Martin and Liam Doyle each did well, clipping an 82 apiece for the day.

Kaye also led his team on the scoresheet. The senior tied Connor Warns for a 76, a nice score on a beautiful day. Nick Longano managed an 80 for the day. MJ Myers and Braden Hilditch completed the fivesome with respective scores of 82 and 83.

All in all, it was a fun day for the Wildcats. It's the kind of day that reminds you why we golf.
