Monday turned out to be an eventful today on the golf course for the men of Ohio City.

The Saint Ignatius varsity golf team captured a hard-earned victory at the Hudson Invitational on Monday, tallying a team score of 296.

The Wildcats defeated the Archbishop Hoban Knights by virtue of a 5-man tiebreaker after the two teams finished with the same score. The two clubs have battled it out early this year, and will likely be competitive foes throughout the rest of the season and into the postseason.

Topher Reed scored as the Wildcats' top golfer at Hudson Country Club, as the team's coaching staff rested senior Andrew Kaye. Reed recorded a team-best tally of 70, setting him at -18 in his last eight rounds. That's absolutely absurd. Reed's special skills cannot be overstated.

Ross Williamson and Nick Piesen each enjoyed great days with identical scores of 74. Both young men are having nice starts to the season. Williamson proved to be especially clutch on Monday, hitting a marvelous putt on his last hole to help the Wildcats win the 5-man tiebreaker. The senior will be looked upon over the course of the year to hit clutch shots like that one, and he'll deliver.

Nick Longano and Connor Malicki rounded out the bunch with cards of 78. The junior and freshman are excellent examples of the team's top-flight talent that fills the squad's roster. 

Through five events, the Wildcats now have two first-place finishes and three runner-up marks. That's right – the Wildcats have not finished lower than second this year (let's hope a writer's jinx doesn't exist). 

The Golf Cats head to Toledo on Tuesday for the Titan Cup. St. John's Jesuit will be the host of the event. The JV Gold/Varsity B squad will also make the trip west for the event.
