Award season is not yet over for Michael Boehm. And this one carries some extra weight.

The All-American senior has won the Adam S. Hamilton Award.

Since 2012, the All-American who receives the most votes in Northern Ohio has been named the Adam S. Hamilton Northern Ohio Player of the Year. Boehm has been bestowed with this honor this season.

The recognition itself is nice, but the name on the award is extra special. Adam Hamilton was a lacrosse star in Northeast Ohio in the mid-2000s at Kent Roosevelt, becoming the program's first U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American. He tallied 104 assists and 100 goals in 56 career games. Hamilton also played hockey and football for the Rough Riders before graduating in 2007, earning all-conference honors. As the award description states, "Coaches, teammates, and opponents praised Hamilton for his leadership skills, confidence, and swagger. He was respected for his gritty and determined style of play."

In 2009, Hamilton decided to join the U.S. Army. He graduated basic and advanced training, becoming a Cav Scout of the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 1st Brigade Combat Team in the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. Hamilton was deployed to Afghanistan in February 2011. He was one of the top marksmen in his unit and was assigned as a sniper.

On May 28, 2011, Hamilton died of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device (IED) during a night mission in Haji Ruf, Afghanistan. He was 22 years old. Hamilton was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal.

Boehm is the eighth young man to receive the award named after Hamilton. The Michigan commit is the first Saint Ignatius Wildcat to acquire the award.

Boehm is a wonderful young man who lives the mission of Saint Ignatius High School every day. His coaches could not be more proud of him. 

"Congrats to Michael on yet another recognition," said Wildcats' head coach Mason Wynocker '91. "Back-to-back All-American recognition is a great accomplishment, but also receiving the highest number of votes in the region this year shows that other coaches appreciate his game. Since our season, Michael's been working hard this summer against quality competition. Our fans should look for him to have a great senior year."
