Another talented Wildcat is headed to play at the University of Akron.

Tony Georges has committed to the Zips.

The talented offensive lineman selected Akron after a recruiting process that saw Georges receive offers from a number of schools, along with visits to Big Ten schools such as Michigan State and Michigan. But his commitment to Akron comes as no surprise to many surrounding Saint Ignatius football.

With former Saint Ignatius star quarterback Tom Arth '99 at the helm at Akron, many Wildcats have drawn looks and offers from the Zips. Georges is a perfect fit for Akron and Arth's brand of smart, hard-nosed football.

The 6'3, 285-pound recruit is a dynamic lineman. Just look at his highlight tape from the 2018 season – the man can do it all. Georges played left and right guard, left and right tackle, and even a little bit at center. His combination of strength, quickness, and flexibility allowed him to play wherever the coaches asked him to. His willingness to play anywhere also shows his coachability.

His offensive line coaches love working with him, too.

"I am extremely proud of Tony," said Adam Rini '99. "The University of Akron, and Coach Tom Arth, are getting a tough & physical player who will put in the work to get better every day. I am excited to watch Tony develop this season and will look forward to watching him reach his potential as a player at Akron."

Georges will be a key leader of the offensive line this season, along with fellow Division I recruit Nick Schwitzgabel. Wherever the coaching staff utilizes his skills, Georges will be a strong and smart influence on the line.

Akron's offensive coordinator Tommy Zagorski knows talent and potential when he sees it. Not long after being hired, Zagorski and Arth pursued Owen Murphy. A starter at several spots on the line in 2018, Murphy chose Akron and is preparing to start practice with the Zips.

Georges also fell in love with Akron after talking to Arth and Zagorski and taking a visit to the campus. He's thankful for the chance to play at a Division I school.

"I am truly grateful to play football at the next level under Coach Arth and Coach Z, and to further my academics at the University of Akron," Georges said. "I'm so thankful for Coach Kyle and Coach Rini and the rest of the coaching staff for helping me get to this point of my career. I am also really grateful for all my teammates and looking forward to our senior year and finishing the job. AMDG and Go Zips!"

Before heading to Akron, look for Georges to be a key contributor. His exact role will become clear over the course of camp, but wherever he starts, Georges will be a great player and leader.

In the meantime, congrats to Georges on committing to Akron!
