Former Saint Ignatius QB Tom Arth '99 will lead the Zips into InfoCision Stadium on September 7.

Home openers always have a festive feel, but the first home game of the season for the Akron Zips will be extra special this year.

New head coach Tom Arth '99 will lead the Zips into InfoCision Stadium for the first time on Saturday, September 7. Even more exciting, Saint Ignatius fans will have the chance to be a part of the historic moment.

The Zips are welcoming the Saint Ignatius football community to InfoCision Stadium on September 7 for the 12 pm game vs. the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazers.

The Zips are offering a special deal for Saint Ignatius football alumni. Tickets in Section 106 are available for $15, discounted from the normal advance price of $25 and $35 on game day. Tickets are available online here – simply use the promo code GOZIPS for the deal.

Many in the Saint Ignatius football family are excited to welcome Arth back home, including his former coaches Chuck Kyle '69 and Nick Restifo.

"It's exciting to see Tom come back into this area. He's had an amazing path – high school, college, pros, back to college and moving up the ladder. He has an interesting opportunity at Akron," Kyle said. "They picked the right guy, he's what they were looking for. He's already proven it – just look at their academic record, it's moved up immensely since he's been there.

"He recently had his juniors and seniors meet up with local Akron businesspeople during a little meet and greet," Kyle continued. "There were a lot of business cards exchanged with these kids, which maybe sets up some internships. It's great because this is about their future. It will be fun to see him coach this football season."

Before the game, fans are welcomed to tailgate before the game at 10 am. Kickoff is at noon.
