The next leaders of the Saint Ignatius lacrosse program have been chosen.

Following another stellar season, four members of the varsity squad have been selected as captains for the 2020 season. All four are rising seniors with high hopes and large goals.

The four captains are Michael Boehm, Connor Cmiel, Merick Hartley, and Jack Welcsh.

All four men are special lacrosse players. They are banner members of one of the best lacrosse classes in recent memory. Beyond that, all four are excellent student-athletes and young men.

Boehm has developed into one of the most talented lacrosse players in program history. The rising senior snagged school records for goals, assists, and points this season with 71 goals and 47 assists for 118 points. Boehm also owns nearly every career offensive record, totaling 181 goals, 119 assists, and 300 points. Boehm will be fun to watch as a senior, too, on the ice and on the field.

Cmiel also enjoyed a great season, enjoying All-American status with Boehm. Cmiel has bloomed into an unstoppable midfielder. Excellent on offense, stout on defense, and an expert at clearing, Cmiel is a weapon. The rising senior finished the year with 45 goals and 23 assists for a grand total of 68 points, second on the squad. Cmiel also added 67 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, evidence of his fight and will all over the field. A three-sport athlete, Cmiel also stars on the football field and basketball court.

Hartley is another skilled midfielder. Nearly unstoppable on offense, Hartley's shot is deadly from anywhere, but particularly from his office. A similar comparison might by Alex Ovechkin with his lethal ripper. Hartley finished the season second only to Boehm in goals with 54. The fellow senior added 7 assists along with 27 ground balls.

Welcsh is a defensive stalwart for the Wildcats. The athletic defender can outmaneuver nearly any attack, forcing passes away from him. Welcsh can slide and block with the best of them, preventing open shots and goals. The rising senior tallied 53 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers in an outstanding season, also adding two assists. Along with Hartley, Welcsh garnered All-State recognition. You'll see Welcsh on the field with the Football Cats this season.

Aspiring Wildcats can also see Boehm, Cmiel, Hartley, and Welcsh on the field this summer. The four captains will all be at Saint Ignatius lacrosse camp this summer. The camp will be from July 15-17 from 6-8 pm at Saint Ignatius.
