Saint Ignatius Athletics has written a new chapter for its already prestigious book.

Saint Ignatius High School will dedicate the crown jewel of the Campus South Athletic Complex – the brand-new Carfagna Family Magis Athletic Center (the MAC) on Sunday, June 2.

Adding to the recently turfed Kyle and McLaughlin fields, the MAC is located behind the Breen Center for Performing Arts at 3100 Chatham Avenue. The new field house will have a wide range of uses. The facility will feature batting cages, an indoor golf simulator, rowing ergometers, open space for all teams to utilize, locker rooms, offices, and a meeting space.

A groundbreaking ceremony on June 5, 2018 kicked off construction. Rita and Peter Carfagna '71 provided the lead gift, supplemented by many other donors to the project. But this marvel of a facility was dreamed of long ago, particularly by Assistant Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Brad Ganor.

The realization of this dream will have a transformative effect on Saint Ignatius Athletics.

“We’re very grateful for this new facility,” Ganor said. "The impact this will have on our athletic programs will be felt for generations. Having an indoor space to practice throughout the year, particularly during long Cleveland winters, will change the game for us.”

The facility will also be a gamechanger for the community. The field house will be available to rent for the community and outside organizations.

Sunday's dedication will start with Mass in the St. Mary of the Assumption Chapel at 11 am. A ribbon cutting and blessing by Saint Ignatius President Rev. Raymond P. Guiao, S.J. ’82 will take place at 12 pm. A reception and facility tour will follow.
