Win or lose this weekend, two stellar members of the Wildcats will be recognized for an excellent season.

As announced by the Ohio High School Boys Volleyball Association (OHSBVA) this week, Phil Catanzaro and Andrew Boeckman have been honored as All-State players. Catanzaro was selected for the second-team and Boeckman was chosen as an honorable mention.

The awards highlight a marvelous season for the Wildcats' big hitters. The two outside hitters have provided countless kills for the Volleyball Cats over the course of the season. Catanzaro's rocket arm and Boeckman's cannon kills have supplied many points and highlights over the course of the season.

Besides offensive stats, Catanzaro and Boeckman have contributed in other parts of the game. The two supplemented their play with blocks on the front line and in the back line with masterful digs. And one more thing – don't get them started at the service line. Both Catanzaro and Boeckman have provided long stretches of flawless serves at the service line in impressive fashion.

Catanzaro and Boeckman have enjoyed similarly dynamic seasons, but their careers are at different stages. Boeckman's time in the blue and gold is just getting started. The sophomore has plenty of juice and eligibility left in his arm for the next few seasons. On the other hand, Catanzaro's career will end, one way or another, this weekend at Capital University.

Catanzaro's career began as a freshman in 2016 and continued in an increasingly important role in 2017. The talented hitter helped the Wildcats get over the hump in that magical June weekend in 2017, securing the program's first-ever title. Catanzaro kept rolling as a junior, earning North Region Player of the Year honors. Wearing #34, Catanzaro catapulted the Cats back to the state tourney, garnering first-team All-State honors.

This year, Catanzaro served as a captain and a team leader. His contributions on and off the court helped to ground the team and keep the squad moving forward. His efforts have been invaluable.

Boeckman has followed in Catanzaro's footsteps, modeling a hard work ethic and leadership in his conduct and off the court. Rarely flustered, Boeckman is the future of Saint Ignatius volleyball. A humble and kind young man, Boeckman has a bright future.

Without a doubt, Catanzaro has a shining future ahead, too. He plans to attend Georgetown University in the fall.

In the duo's immediate future is the OHSBVA State Quarterfinal on Saturday. The Wildcats will battle the Archbishop Moeller Crusaders at about 1:30 pm at Capital. A live broadcast will be available here

Win or lose, Catanzaro and Boeckman will be presented with their All-State awards on Sunday.
