Something special is brewing at West 30th and Lorain, and the word is starting to seep out.

The Saint Ignatius lacrosse program enters the final two games of the regular season with an 11-3 record, undefeated against Ohio competition. The team's only three losses came at the hands of Top 25 ranked teams in the nation.

Coaches from across the Midwest have begun to recognize the Wildcats' excellence, as evidenced by the voting for the upcoming Midwest Tournament. The Wildcats drew the No. 1 seed, as 12 of 15 voters selected Saint Ignatius as the top team.

As a result, the Wildcats will play in the A bracket. The Lax Cats will play Kiski Prep out of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania in the first game on Friday. The contest is slated for 5:30 pm at Fortress Obetz. The Wildcats will be the home team.

Win or lose, the Wildcats will play again on Saturday. With a win, the Lax Cats play the winner of Upper Arlington vs. St. Xavier at 2 pm. If the Wildcats succumb to Kiski, they would face the loser of UA vs. St. X at 10 am on Saturday.

The Wildcats have played Kiski twice in program history, winning in 2015 and 2016. Just over a week ago, Saint Ignatius defeated St. Xavier at Obetz, 12-9. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears and Wildcats last met in 2018 at Fortress Obetz, with Upper Arlington managing a 10-6 win in the consolation game.

Before this weekend, the Wildcats have business to attend to. Everest Academy visits Wasmer Field on Monday for a 7 pm showdown, and St. Edward will face the Wildcats on Tuesday at 7:30 pm. Both games will be broadcasted on the SIBN.
