Michael Boehm tallied two goals in the contest.

The Lax Cats traveled to South Bend on Saturday to take on the No. 4 nationally Ranked Culver Academy Eagles. This game proved to be one of the Wildcats’ toughest of the year.

Although the Cats have been able to dominate a certain Eagles team in our area in recent years, the Culver Academy Eagles proved that they belong among the top teams in the country. Culver won the game, played at Arlotta Stadium at the University of Notre Dame, 26-4.

Goals for the Wildcats came courtesy of Connor Cmiel and Michael Boehm. Each junior scored twice in the game.

Culver jumped out to an early lead in the first few minutes, 3-0, but the Wildcats were able to close it to just one goal, at 4-3. From there, the game was all Eagles. Culver finished the game on a 22-1 run, dominating the previously 3-1 Wildcats. Culver finished off the game with 4 goals in the final 60 seconds. Culver’s dominant FOGO, bound for Denver University in the fall, played a large part in Culver’s run.

Although the game was seemingly out-of-hand, our boys never gave up. The Wildcats continued to chase after every loose ball, play their best defense, and try to set up teammates for scoring opportunities. The Cats showed a lot of talent and promise during this game with several great plays, including Michael Boehm’s attempted behind the back just-missed shot that would have made SportCenter’s Top 10. Jack Welsch’s yard-sale fired up the crowd early in the game. Cmiel and Boehm’s lightning-like shots that helped him put up a pair each for the Cats were also a highlight.

By the time this team reaches the state tournament, the Wildcats will be playing some of the best lacrosse out of all the teams in Ohio, and will have their eyes set on winning the school’s first state championship in lacrosse.

As for the immediate future, the Wildcats return to action on Wednesday, facing Western Reserve Academy.
