Lockett won his weight class at Sectionals on Saturday.

A special young man and athlete is this week's student-athlete of the week.

A smart student, ambitious leader, and talented athlete, Najee Lockett earns the distinction this week for his performance for the Mat Cats at the Sectional Tournament last weekend.

Lockett and the Saint Ignatius wrestling team secured second place at Sectionals last Saturday at Brecksville-Broadview Heights in impressive fashion.

Lockett rocketed past his competition at 160 pounds on Saturday, winning all three of his matches by large margins. Lockett earned wins via pin, major decision, and tech fall to win the sectional title, the second in his career.

The Wildcats' strong grappler has enjoyed a strong sophomore campaign to date. Lockett has notched a 24-7 overall record on the year, racking up 21 near falls, 8 major decisions, 7 pins, and 120 team points. Lockett has begun to fulfill his incredible potential as a wrestler.

His journey continues on Friday, as he and the Mat Cats will compete at the District Tournament, looking to secure a berth to the State Tournament from March 8-10.

Lockett's quest for excellence extends off the mat, too. Lockett is an eloquent and hard-working student. He also recently started a vlog on YouTube and has started to work towards his dream of working in video production.

Congrats to Najee and the Mat Cats – good luck this weekend!
