The ‘Cats headed to Bowling Green State University last Saturday to compete in the Northwest District Meet. With point contributions from eleven different swimmers and divers, the ‘Cats took second place, matching last year’s District finish.

The Catfish were led by freshman phenom Tyler Hong. In addition to a second place finish in the 100 backstroke (0:50.12), Hong took first in the 200 IM, breaking a district record with a time of (1:50.72).

Joseph Richmond, also only a freshman, took second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:43.90.

In addition to the individual events, two relay teams were able to qualify for states. The 200 Medley Relay team, composed of Tyler Hong, Nick Hong, John Libertin, and Cian O’Haimhirgin finished fourth with a time of 1:36.91. The 400 freestyle relay team (T. Hong, Haywood, Soeder, and O’Haimhirgin) took second with a time of 3:10.33.

As expected, the Catfish divers once again dominated the competition. Alex Claus took first with a score of 533.60 and William Claus notched a score of 452.55 to finish right below in second place.

The ‘Cats will compete this Friday and Saturday at the State Swimming and Diving Championship at the Canton McKinley Natatorium. There they will battle against the best talent Ohio has to offer.
