Following a successful Christmas break, the Saint Ignatius Swimming and Diving team was back in action in Canton this past Saturday at the Northeast Classic.

Freshman standouts Tyler Hong and Joseph Richmond again impressed with their strong performances. Tyler Hong led the ‘Cats with second place finishes in both the 100 backstroke (0:51.23) and the 100 butterfly (0:50.75). Joseph Richmond finished fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:57.68).

Junior Nicholas Hong also helped the ‘Cats with his seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.39).

As always, the Catfish were able to count on their talented core of divers. South Carolina commit Alex Claus finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 419.75. Following close behind was Alex’s Freshman brother William Claus, who took fourth place in the same event with a 386.15 score.

The 400 free relay and 200 medley teams also recorded points, finishing third and fifth, respectively.

The Catfish will be on the road this weekend, as they head to Loyola, Maryland to compete in the prestigious National Catholic Championships.
