It was a successful Christmas break for the Saint Ignatius Swimming and Diving team.

The Catfish put together a total of four key wins, falling only once to area powerhouse University School. The wins included a 125-58 win over Strongsville, a 127-59 defeat of Solon, and a 108-78 victory over the Raiders of Shaker Heights. Capping off the break was a decisive 131-54 victory over rival Saint Edward.

Junior Captain John Libertin commented on the team’s dominating performance against the Eagles: “We’ve beat them the past three years, but this win was different because we have such a young team and everybody pulled through. It shows a lot of hope not only for this year but for the future as well.”

According to the estimates of the coaching staff, the swimmers swam a total of 44.3 miles over Christmas break. This is the equivalent of swimming across Lake Erie from Fairport Harbor, Ohio to Rondeau Park, Canada. The hard work of the Saint Ignatius Swimming and Diving team cannot be overstated.

Weather permitting, the Catfish will return to action Saturday, January 13 for the NE Classic at the University of Akron.
