Ice Cats Assume No. 1 Spot in MHR.com Rankings

The Saint Ignatius varsity prep hockey team has taken over the #1 spot in the latest www.myhockeyrankings.com rankings for the OHSAA.

The Cats took the spot over from Toledo St. Francis. The rankings are based off a system entailing record, overall team rating based off of common opponents, goal differential, and strength of schedule.

4. Olentangy Liberty

5. St. Edward

6. Sylvania Northview

8. Walsh Jesuit

9. Dublin Jerome

10. Holy Name

other notable close teams: Toledo St. Johns, Shaker Heights, Rocky River, St. Charles

Former Wildcat state champion Michael Wells ’10 and his Varsity Blue squad is currently ranked #23 with one of the toughest schedules in the state, per MHR. Wells’ scoring attack has been led by junior Pat Eppich, and sophomores Christian Radke and Vince Holzheimer. Ryce Federle, Sam Firth, and Charlie Ellis have manned the blue line to a tee. Zak Kovatch has done well in between the pipes.

The Wildcats’ prep team will attend the Purple Puck Tournament next week hosted by Gonzaga (D.C). The Wildcats round robin contests will feature three Jesuit teams that are #1 in their respective states or regions. Loyola Academy (IL), Regis Jesuit (CO), and Gonzaga will be the Wildcats’ opponents. This tourney will take place from the 28th-30th.

Varsity Blue will travel to the City of Bridges to partake in the PA Scholastic Showcase from December 28-30.
