Kurtz scored two goals to secure the Wildcats' win over the Eagles.

On a young team, senior leadership means everything.

Bain Kurtz embodies a senior leader – smart, strong, and always up to the challenge.

The captain came through in the clutch for the Saint Ignatius varsity prep hockey team on Saturday against St. Edward, and as a result, is this week's student-athlete of the week.

Kurtz guided the Wildcats in Saturday's win, anchoring the team against a hard-nosed Eagles squad. Kurtz scored the only two goals of the game, defeating the Eagles' hot goaltender. Tallying a wraparound goal in the first period and an insurance marker in the third, the Wildcats win would not have been possible without the senior.

Kurtz has provided a spark for the Ice Cats all season, especially in the offensive zone. Adding some physicality to his game, Kurtz is one of the more well-rounded and developed players on the squad.

Outside of hockey, Kurtz is a model citizen. The senior is a solid, dedicated student in the classroom. Kurtz also served as the color commentator for the Soccer Cats on SIBN broadcasts this fall.

Congratulations to Kurtz on this honor, and good luck this weekend!
