One of Saint Ignatius High School's brightest student-athletes is headed for the Ivy League.

Phil Zuccaro '18 has decided to take his track & field talents to Yale University.

Zuccaro announced the decision on Twitter on Tuesday, receiving plenty of praise and congratulations from his teammates, coaches, and friends. Zuccaro follows in the footsteps of many other Saint Ignatius Bulldogs, including Brian Dowling '65 and Michael Chime '16.

One of the Wildcats' top track and field athletes, Zuccaro qualified for States in several events last year, including the 100m and 200m dash. Zuccaro also helped the 4x100m dash relay clinch a trip to Columbus. Thanks to the efforts of Zuccaro and the Wildcats, the squad earned the Amherst Regional Championship.

Zuccaro excels off the field, too. The St. Bernadette grad and parishioner was recently named a National Merit Semifinalist. Of nearly 1.6 million U.S. students who take the PSAT, just 16,000 qualify as Semifinalists. Zuccaro ranks among the top 1% of students across the country.

Zuccaro is also active in the Saint Ignatius community, donating much of his free time to service. Zuccaro is a Labre leader, a Kairos leader, and participated in a mission trip to Louisville two summers ago.

While looking forward to his senior campaign, Zuccaro is excited for the next step of his journey.

"I'm excited to go to Yale because it's the perfect place for me to excel as a student and develop as an athlete," Zuccaro said. "The school just felt like a perfect fit from the second I stepped foot on campus and I'm beyond grateful to all the coaches, friends, and family who have helped me obtain this opportunity. I know that Saint Ignatius has prepared me well for this new challenge. Go Bulldogs!"

On behalf of the Athletic Department and the Saint Ignatius community, congratulations to Phil on choosing an outstanding school. Phil is a remarkable young man with a bright future ahead of him. His intellect, respect for others, and positive, jovial attitude will get him far in life. Congrats, Phil!
