Kyle Folds enjoyed a great day for the Soccer Cats

On a humid Tuesday night at Wasmer Field, the Saint Ignatius varsity soccer team took on the Bruins from Padua Franciscan.

The Wildcats were without star striker Everett Shorey, but the offense was still overwhelming. Kyle Folds netted two goals in the first 10 minutes to get the Wildcat offense to an early start.

Junior forward Kory Nekeloff and Sophomore Nick Russo also scored goals in the first half of play.

This game saw many Wildcats getting playing time, and in particular, guys like Kevin Shearer, Danny Kalic, and Luke Griffiths played well. Theo Kudlo stepped onto the pitch for the first time in a few days after a suffering an injury earlier this season.

In the second half, there was not much action, with the exception of a beautiful bending shot from outside the left side of the box by Matthew McLaughlin. Fans also saw a display of some fancy foot skills by junior midfielder Kyle Healy.

Senior goalie Ryan Mark recorded his first clean sheet of the season in what was a fantastic team win for the Cats.

The Wildcats proved dominant in their possession time, and rarely gave the Bruins a chance to make a run towards the net. The Wildcats did not allow a single shot all game long.

The Cats are back in action this Saturday at 3 p.m. at Wasmer Field to play the #1 ranked team in the state and also the number #1 ranked team in the nation, the Olentangy Liberty Patriots. As Coach Mike McLaughlin '85 said before the game, the Wildcats have been ranked as the top squad in the nation before, but have never faced the #1 in the country.

Also, Saturday marks grade school/summer camper day. All Saint Ignatius soccer campers will receive free admission and a free giveaway at the gate.
