The road trip will be a big challenge for the Wildcats.

The Ice Cats will have an action-packed Martin Luther King Day Weekend in mid-January.

The Saint Ignatius Prep hockey team will play three games in three days in Michigan, offering a great challenge in the squad's schedule.

The Wildcats will start the weekend off against Hartland on Friday, January 12 at 7 p.m. at the Hartland Sports Center. Then, the Ice Cats will play Brighton on Saturday, January 13 at 5 p.m. at the Kensington Valley Ice House. The weekend will conclude with a showdown with Novi on Sunday, January 14 at 1:15 p.m. at Novi Ice Arena.

Head Coach Pat O'Rourke '90 and his team are excited for the tripleheader weekend.

Hartland, the first opponent, finished the 2016-17 season as the No. 5 team in the state, according to My Hockey Rankings. Hartland concluded the season with a record of 25-3-1, falling to Brother Rice in Division 2 State Semifinal. Jed Pietila ’17 was drafted by Aberdeen in the NAHL and Blake Heier ’17 was selected by Lansing Wolves of the NA3HL.

Brighton, the second squad, finished the season as the top team in the state with a record of 24-6-1. Brighton claimed the 2017 Division 1 State Championship. The team's notable players from last year are impressive. Jake Crespi ’17 was the 2017 Mr. Hockey honoree in Michigan. Crespi will play in the USHL for Tri-City Storm this season, and is and committed to play NCAA DI hockey at Michigan Tech. Adam Conquest ‘18 was drafted by Des Moines in the USHL, too. Keith Wikman ’17 was selected by Metro Jets in the NA3HL.

Novi, the final team on the schedule, will look to improve this season. Novi finished the 2016-17 campaign ranked 30th in the state with a record of 10-14-2.

The Ice Cats will look to use the Michigan trip to springboard into the remainder of a packed schedule. All three teams should pose good games for the Wildcats.
