Another accolade for a special student-athlete and young man.

When a major national award is just another notch on the résumé, you know you're talking about a special player.

Stephen Milhoan is the epitome of a special player.

The recently graduated Wildcat won yet another award last week, as the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) named Milhoan the 2017 NHSCA Boys’ Soccer Athlete of the Year.

Milhoan's feats are well-known. Soon to be a Xavier University student, Milhoan helped the Wildcats win back-to-back-to-back OHSAA Division I boys' soccer titles and extended the team's unbeaten streak to a program-record 59 matches.

Individually, Milhoan finished his career as the school record holder for goals (80) and 39 assists, two short of Assistant Coach Mark Blades' record of 41. Milhoan also excelled in the classroom with a 3.62 GPA, and also outside of it, serving at a local homeless shelter.

While 17 players have previously received the NHSCA's soccer athlete of the year award dating back to 2000, Milhoan is the first Ohio player to earn the accolade.

“Stephen is an excellent example what this award stands for,” said Eric Hess, Executive Director of the NHSCA, said in a press release. “Stephen has excelled on the soccer field and in the classroom. We congratulate him on an outstanding high school career and wish him good luck in college.”

Besides this award from the NHSCA, Milhoan was recently named Gatorade's Ohio Boys Soccer Player of the Year. The National Soccer Coaches of America honored Milhoan as the 2016 National Player of the Year. The Medina native also received the Ohio Soccer Coaches Association’s Division I Player of the Year Award in 2015 and 2016.

Congratulations to Milhoan on an incredible career with the Wildcats and another well-deserved honor.
