The Saint Ignatius volleyball team's quest for a state championship began with a nice victory on Tuesday evening.

The Wildcats rolled to a 3-0 sweep of the Medina Bees on Tuesday at Walsh Jesuit High School, securing a spot in the Regional Finals on Saturday.

The win initiates a rematch with the Hudson Explorers in the Regional Finals at Walsh Jesuit. The Wildcats swept the Explorers, 3-0, on Hudson's home turf on April 19.

No time was wasted in the early going on Tuesday, as the Wildcats got right down to business. The Volleyball Cats used 8 aces and 13 kills to down Medina in the first set, 25-4. Philip Catanzaro guided the Wildcats with 7 aces by himself, an impressive statline.

The second set ended even better for the Wildcats. The Volleyball Cats dominated the set. The visitors recorded 7 aces and 11 kills, shutting out the Bees, 25-0. David Castele headlined the Wildcats' efforts with 7 aces on 24 attempts. Danny Michals notched 6 kills, while Richie Holzheimer tabbed 10 assists.

The Bees fought back in the third set, but could not secure the victory, as the Wildcats defeated Medina, 25-15, to complete the sweep. John Moynihan anchored the Wildcats with 3 kills and 3 aces in the win.

Should the Wildcats win on Saturday versus the Explorers, the Volleyball Cats would advance to the State Tournament on June 3-4 in Columbus.
