A new Saint Ignatius sports camp will debut this summer, featuring two of the brightest young coaches in the Cleveland area.

The Saint Ignatius Athletic Department is pleased to unveil its new Speed and Power Camp.

The 1-3 week camp offers each Camper-Athlete the chance to become stronger, faster, and an all-around better athlete. The camp is open to boys and girls in grades 5-8. The camp runs Monday through Thursday from 1:30-3 p.m., from June 5-23rd. Parents can register their student-athletes for one week, two weeks, or three weeks. Registration is online, available by clicking here.

"I'm very excited about our new strength and conditioning camp," said Athletic Director Rory Fitzpatrick '88. "We're lucky to have KJ and Anthony here. They have been a huge help in the weight room and on the field. I know this camp will be a big success."

Athletes will have the opportunity to learn from Football (Secondary Coach) and Track & Field Assistant Coach Kevin Johnson '10 and Director of Strength & Conditioning Anthony Rubino. Johnson will work with the athletes on how to become faster, by fixing their technique and improving their foot work. Rubino will improve their strength and proper weight lifting techniques to become more explosive and competitive.

Johnson enjoyed a highly successful career at Saint Ignatius and Baldwin Wallace University, playing football and competing in track and field. Johnson holds an impressive six BW track records. He holds the title of a National Champion in the 100m dash and 200m at the 2014 Division III Track & Field National Championships. Johnson is one of the most accomplished sprinters in the Northeast Ohio area.

Since graduating from BW, Johnson has coached football and track & field at Saint Ignatius. He was the sprint coach at Magnificat High School 2014-2016, helping the Blue Streaks won districts in 2016. Currently, he is serving as a Physical Education and Health teacher at Saint Ignatius.

Rubino came to Saint Ignatius in May 2015, following a 3-year stint as the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Utah State University. He previously served as a coach at Webber International University. Since his arrival at Saint Ignatius, the Wildcats have won six state championships and two national titles.

Rubino works with each of the 16 sports at Saint Ignatius, opting for a personalized approach for student-athlete to become more competitive amongst other athletes. He uses analytics and data to see where a student-athlete needs to improve, adapting strength and conditioning routines while balancing a nutritious life style.

The seasoned coach has certifications and training from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, USA Weight Lifting, Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association, the International Society of Sports Nutrition, National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and the American Heart Association.

Rubino's work and expertise have paid off for the hockey team, which has won back-to-back OHSAA Division I State Championships.

"The strength and conditioning program here is great, and Anthony Rubino is one of the big reasons why," said Head Hockey Coach Pat O'Rourke '90. "The program helps our guys get stronger in the weight room, and it translates to results on the ice. Anthony is a smart guy, and he's great with the players. He'll make you faster, stronger, and better."

Rubino and Johnson are excited about the opportunity to work with athletes to develop both speed and power throughout the summer. While here during the 1, 2, or 3 weeks you will see a difference in your overall performance.  Based on the impact the two have had with the Wildcats' varsity sports teams, the camp is sure to be a success!
