The Baseball Cats were back at it again on the home turf of Fisher Field at Baldwin Wallace University, this time squaring off against the Fighting Irish of Akron’s St. Vincent- St. Mary.

The game was a cold one for the Cats – both in the weather and in the game itself, as the hosts were defeated narrowly, 4-3.

The Irish got the game started in the top half of the second inning when they punched in two quick runs on two straight hits off of pitcher Tommy Grosel. But the Cats would respond in the bottom half when shortstop Mark Geraci knocked home Miami (OH) bound Ryan Jacobs to cut the lead to 1.

And the Cats kept coming. In the bottom half of the 3rd inning, Connor Adams lined a shot into the outfield to send Jeffrey Chonko home to tie up the score at 2 with a ton of baseball left to play.

But, after a scoreless 4th, the Irish struck again in the 5th, this time on an RBI ground out which gave them a 1-run advantage once again.

Then after holding the Cats scoreless once again in the top half of the 6th, the Irish cashed in on a passed ball to tack on another run, leaving the score at 4-2.

But the Cats didn’t go away. A sacrifice fly out by Demchuk punched home pinch runner Alec Guy to cut the lead back down to 1 in the bottom half of the 6th.

Despite the late effort, the last sac fly was all the Cats could manage, and the Irish prevailed 4-3 in what was a closely contested game. This loss drops the Cats to a 2-5 record, with much work to do going forward.

The Wildcats have two big games left over this Spring Break, and they want to get back on the winning track. The team's next matchup is this Saturday versus Strongsville High School, once again at Baldwin Wallace, with first pitch at 2 pm.
