Monday marked the end of a memorable season for the Saint Ignatius bowling squad.

The Alley Cats enjoyed a remarkable season, finishing third or better in four tournaments, notching a 6-3 OHSAA record against Greater Cleveland Interscholastic Bowling League (GCIBL) foes, and finishing with a 29-16 baker record.

Unfortunately, the Alley Cats' season ended at Sectionals on Monday. The Wildcats fell 49 pins short of qualifying for Districts.

The Wildcats' scratch total of 2,644 pins (fourth overall) and Baker total of 3,742 (third overall) placed the Alley Cats in fourth, behind Mentor, Garfield Heights, and St. Edward. Ten teams competed at Sectionals, with the fifth place finisher coming in 350 pins behind the Wildcats.

As he has done many times this season, Nick Frank buoyed the Alley Cats. The senior bowled a 177, 203, and 226 for a team-high 606 series. By virtue of his strong scores, Frank qualified for Districts this weekend.

Besides Frank, Anthony Doran also performed quite well. The junior notched a 186, 201, 194, 581 series. Doran will be a key leader on next year's squad.

Devin Venczel ended his final Saint Ignatius campaign with a 509 series, while fellow senior Kevin Ward subbed in well for another teammate in the second stanza with a 216.

Frank will compete for the Alley Cats on Sunday at noon at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes in Canton.

Congratulations to head coach Jim Viets and the Alley Cats on a special season, and best of luck to Frank this weekend.
