Talk about a way to end a season.

In the final regular season match of the 2016-17 campaign, the Saint Ignatius varsity gold wrestling team headed to Beachwood for a tri-match with Beachwood and Wickliffe.

The Wildcats headed back to the West side with two new records in tow.

The Mat Cats scored sizable wins over Beachwood (74-0) and Wickliffe (76-0) on Friday evening, advancing to 14-2 on the season. The record ties the mark for team dual wins in a season, previously set by the 2002-03 and 2013-14 squads.

In addition, senior Kaden Russell placed an exclamation point on what has been an incredible season.

The Duke University-bound wrestler downed both of his foes on Friday, stretching his dual meet record to 16-0. Russell's second win tonight allowed him to surpass the previous record holder, Anthony McLaughlin, for a single-season dual meet record. McLaughlin notched a 15-0 record in the 2013-14 season.

With new achievements to add to the record board, the Mat Cats receive some time off before heading into Sectionals next weekend.

Congratulations again to Kaden and the Mat Cats on an outstanding regular season.
