In just his second year in Columbus, a former Wildcat standout football player has become a star.
Defensive lineman Dre'Mont Jones '15 has been named a Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-American, one of just 15 freshmen defenders in the nation to receive the honor.
Jones matriculated to The Ohio State University after a special football and basketball career at Saint Ignatius. The Cleveland native redshirted the 2015 season with an injury before grabbing a starting spot early this season with the Buckeyes.
Jones finished with 51 total tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, and 1 quarterback hurry, including 7 tackles against Michigan in the regular season finale.
The 2015 grad was a first-team Division I Associated Press all-state football player for head coach Chuck Kyle '69. Jones notched 47 tackles, 21 tackles-for-losses and four sacks with four forced fumbles with the Wildcats.
Jones joined the FWAA All-American list with fellow Buckeyes Mike Weber and Michael Jordan.
"Congratulations to Dre'Mont on an incredible accomplishment," said defensive coordinator Ryan Franzinger '02, a 2006 OSU grad. "Dre' is a very blessed athlete but more importantly he is a tremendous young man and we are very proud of him. His future is very bright."
