Congratulations go out to senior linebacker John Velotta on being selected as the Wildcats' Athlete of the Week for his outstanding efforts in Saint Ignatius' 24-14 State Semifinal victory over previously undefeated Olentangy Liberty on Mansfield's Arlin Field last weekend.
Johnny, who serves and leads as a Captain for Hall of Fame Head Coach Chuck Kyle '69, has been a force in the middle all season.
In helping contain Liberty's multi-skilled attack, Johnny led the 'Cats with 10 tackles, including a momentum-swinging sack and another key stop for a loss.
Johnny V, as this corner likes to refer to the talented and tough inside backer, has 37.5 tackles on the season, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries.
On Friday night, Johnny will help lead the 13-1 Wildcats against the 9-5 Cincinnati St. Xavier Bombers in the OHSAA Division I State Championship Game at Ohio Stadium, the home of The Ohio State University Buckeyes. The kickoff is scheduled for 8 PM.
This corner would like to congratulate and wish all of the best to Johnny, a first-class young man and competitor, and all of the 2016 Saint Ignatius Football Wildcats in their pursuit of a 12th State Championship.
Congrats also go out to Johnny's family, Coach Kyle, Defensive Coordinator Ryan Franzinger '02 and the rest of the "Linebacker Legion."
